The Sears ad copy read, "Knee Socks. All Cotton. 25 c. Pr.; 3 prs 73 c.
Golf socks, knit small throughout. Good quality cotton . . . with snug-
fitting ribbed top that clings to the leg. 2-ply heels and toes add wear.
Shpg wt. pair, 3 oz. Colors: blue, brown, green. Sizes 7, 7 1/2, 8, 8 1/2, 9, 9 1/2. State size and color." The fact that here we see on pair of kneesocks in contrat to two pairs ofankle socks is a indicator that by the earlt 1940s that ankle socks were becoming the princile hosiery worn by American boys, especially as this was from a Fall-Winter catalog.
