Sears

Sears was the leading American chain depoartment store in 1973. They also operated the latrgest mail order catalog. Sears dominance in American retailing was in the 1970s declining. The increasing popularity of malls an botique shops was a mjor factor.

Popular Style

A popular style of casual short pants for boys in 1961 were play and camp shorts. This was one of the most popular style of short pants worn during the 1960s and 70s.

Ad Copy

The ad copy reads, "Perma-Prest® Camp Shorts: Heavy duty twill fabric with soil-release finish for rough-wear and easy-care. Regiular, Slim Sizes 6 to 14 -- $3.39. Husky Sizes 10 to 20 -- #3.59. ?? rugged PERMA-PREST® shorts of 50% polyester and 50% cotton ?? made for action. Special soil releasing finish means most oil and grease b?? wash right out. And these shorts never need ironing .. just machine wash, medium, tumble dry. Four handy carry-all pockets .. 1 snao close ??, 1 zippered slash, 2 backpatch pockets. Flashlight holder and ?? accessory clip. Order your usual size ... if in doubt, see Measuring Chart 1." The shorts were available in green, tan, and blue.
