There were popular series of both fiction and non-fiction books in England. I'm not sure the same was true in France. We have noted that a popular series of books in the 1950s and 60s for younger readers was Signe de Piste. These books seem more focuded on boys than girls as they are primarily adventure stories. We do not note any of the more sedate series like the Bobsy Twins, Nancy Drew, Secret Seven, Our William, or Jennings. Of course we have very limited information on French children's loterature so similar seeroes may exist and we are just not familiar with them. This of course is part of the interesting quest of HBC, to learn more about other countries. We are nor aware od Americanm oe English adventure stries similar to some of the sometinme surealistic advenutes portrayed in the Signe de Pieste series. Another proper series was the Martine books. They were primarily for girls. Many little girls had a complete set at home. The plot of these stories deal with adventures that well brought little girls " petites filles modéles ". A French reader reports, "My daughter had had a complete collection of these books. She just loved them." Another French reader reports, "At present in the early 2000s, this series book are coming back in the stores . Several illustrators are traying to do the same work."
