Globelization

This question deals with with a very publicized phenomenon, globalization which because of the power of modern American media, some call Americanization. A good example here was the furor over Disneyland in France during the 1980s. In our modern world, the public around the world is constantly exposed to American television and movies. Americans on the other hand rarely see foreign movies (English films being an exception) and almost never see foreign television programs. Many countries (including Canada and France) have addressed this phenomenon which as been viewed as cultural imperialism.

Canada


France

A French reader writes, "It's true, French children are seeing many American product on television . We all are agree that they contain too much violence and the plots are often very simply. It is not in the french people style. Our products are rather with a moral sense and we avoid the violence. It is the same thing concerning the children literature .

Euro Disney

A French reader tells us, "About Disneyland. This them park project was wellcome, but we objrcted to everything being written in English. At present if you come to Euro Disney, French is the principal language and the American have adopted the French principle. Sometimes we go there with my little grandson. We enjoy it very much. It s 40 km from Paris. There are always crowds when we go. I have taken my grandson there five times."

McDonnalds

A French reader writes, "At first, McDonalds had some difficult getting established in France. This way of eating is not ours. The company was obliged to adapt the food to the French pallet. So in French McDonalds one finds greens dishes and the hamburgers have more vegetables. But I must be say , they are much criticized by many French people and lobbies claiming that the food is dangerous for the health of our children. In France one eats much vegetable and very many kinds of cheese."
