I'm not sure about the date of this Buster Brown comic strip. Here Buster wears bangs with his classic red tunic suit with a white collar and black bow and above the
knee bloomer knickers. Note that Buster's bloomer knickers do not have pockets. The girl wears ringlets with a white dress and very large hair bows, but the same white socks and strap shoes (figure 1). Buster seems to think mother will
be tickled to see them change clothes. I doubt that, but cutting his little friend's hair apparently was a big mistake. Most of the boys in the Buster Brown strip have
short hair. Buster has bangs and longish hair at the sides. It is the girls who are drawn with ringlits. Boys wore ringlets in the late 19th century, but this declined in
popularity after the turn of the 20th century. Here Buster like many small boys isn't to imprerssed with Flrence, but they become friends. Only Florence gets poor Bruster into big trouble, especially when she has him cut her hair. Note how the hair bow can be easily switched. It is interesting that Buster is depicted here as willing to swap clothes with Florence. Boys today (but not girls) would be horrified at the very idea.
