Soviet Fashion Publications: Knitting


Figure 1.--This outfit is from the woman's magazine "Knitting" in the early 1980s.

The Russians seen to believe in very basic magazine titles. The knitting pagazine was simply called "Knitting". We know nothing about the magazine at this time. It contained knitting fashions, presumably with patterns or advertisements for patterns. All we know for sire was that the magazine was being published in the 1980s. A reader writes, "I assume the boy is wearing tights and that the knitting refers to the knitted pants or top? The shoes are interesting also.:" Yes I think the boy is wearing tights. Russian children stopped wearing long stockings bout 1969-70. As to the knitting, unfortunately all we have is the image. We do not know anything about the article it illustrated. My guess here is that both the top and pants were knitted, but I have no way of comfirming this. Actully the entire top may not have been knitted. The knitted prt may have been just the blue sleeveless garment.
