We note holdings of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) which include sailor outfits for boys and girls. Unlike earlier years, the boys and girls top (blouse) are different. The boy's suit has shorts. It was manufactured in England. It is a classic navy blue and white sailor blouse with one patch pocket and detachable blue and white striped triangular dickey/shield. (BFA calls it a modesty piece. This is not appropriate for a small child. Dickeys were commonly used to accommodate summer and winter weather.) Striped dickeys were not common in America. Label: Best & Co. Liliputian Bazaar Made in England. Second label with 'Bob Blinken'. We are not sure who this was, presumably the English company manufacturing the outfit. BFA describes the material as 'boy's navy wool knit shorts' We think that the blouse was done in the same material. The dimensions were: center back (top): 35.6 cm (14 in.) Length (shorts): 34.3 cm (13 1/2 in.) We are not sure about what size this would have been, but guess about 4-5 years.
