German Schoolwear:  Unidentified Images

Figure 1.--We know nothing about this school photograph. It is unidetified and undated. All we know is that it is German. We are not sure about the type of school group seen here. We tend to think that it was taken in the post-World War II era, but not immediately after the War. The children are dressed reasonably well. The fact that it is a coed group also suggests to us a post-War image. Another factor is the number of boys wearing colored checked shirts. White shirts were much more common before the War. Click on the image to compare it to to a group only a little older taken in 1930.

We have found some images that we can not date with any confidence. The images are of limited utility unless we can date them or figure out the type of school involved. Hopefully our German readers can provide us some insights as to these images.

Figure 1

We know nothing about this school photograph. It is unidentified and undated. All we know is that it is German. We would guess that is is a group that has just begun secondary school, probably on a school trip. Also notice how many boys have buttoned their collars. We would thus assess that the photograph was taken some time about 1950. Compare the image here to a group of comparable ages taken in 1930. We note one bot wearing school sandals. Another boy looks to be wearing suspenders with an H-bar cross strap.
