Vogue Advertisement: Closed-toe Sandals: Styles--Double Bar With Center Straps

Figure 1.--This younger American boy in 1960 wears an Eton-style collarless blazer. The advertisement reads, "Blazer with brass: Boy's cader-blue linen weave rayon cardigan jacket, double breasted. White linen-weave shorts. By Imp Originals (f) 4-6X."

White linen-weave shorts. By Imp Originals (f) 4-6X." I believe this was an advertisement in Vogue, an important American fashion magazine. I do not, however, have the precise issue. A reader writes, "This outfit is very handsome. I've seen boys 10 to 12 wearing outfits such as this for dress occasions. Can't tell if this boy is worried someone might recognize him in his "cute clothes and shoes" or what the problem is. Many boys find it difficult to dress up especially when they are told not to play rough of get there clothes and shoes dirty." HBC has not noted a boy as old as 12 wearing an outfit like this at the time, especially the white kneesovks and sandals. Mostly we have seen outfits like this in fashion magazines, rather than family snapshots.
