Figure 1.-- This American boy is unidentified. He was from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He is wearing a kneepants suit with Norfolk styling. With his suit he has an Eton collar and floppy bow. Notice the cap. The portrait is undated, but we would guess the 1890s.

This American boy is unidentified. The high quality image, however, provides us details on styles that were very common in the 1890s. He klooks to be about 11 years old. All we know about him is that he was from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He is wearing a kneepants suit with Norfolk styling, although there are no belt with the jacket. We do not know the color of the suit, but it has a dtipped pattern. With his suit the boy has he has an Eton collar and large floppy bow with stripes. . Notice the cap. The portrait is undated, but we would guess the 1890s.

Identity

This American boy is unidentified. He klooks to be about 11 years old. All we know about him is that he was from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Clothing

The boy here is wearing a kneepants suit with Norfolk styling, although there are no belt with the jacket. I'm not sure about the color, but would guess a shade of bown or green. green We do not know the color od the suit, but it has a stripped pattern. We are not sure about the color. It looks similar wto the color of the suit, perhaps with a yellow sripe. With his suit the boy has he has an Eton collar and large floppy bow with stripes. Notice the cap. I am not sure what the cap was called. It may have been valled a "yacht cap", but we are not sure about this. It is a darker color than the suit, but was probably coordinated with it. He wears long black stockings with the suit.

Conventions

The boy here looks to be wearing a new suit. We note that mothers often had boys about this age wear a new suit with Eton or rugffled collars or floppy bows for a year or two and then would wear the same suit with less juvenile collars and neckwear.
