Figure 1.--This American boy is identified on the back as B. Curtis Sunderland. The outfit and mount style suggests thsat it was taken about 1900. The photographer is not listed. Curtis looks to be about 3-4 years old. He wears a light-weight knee pants Fauntleroy suit with a Fauntleroy blouse that had a huge ruffled collar and matching wrist cuffs. He also had a floppy bow with rays of color. He has a ring on his middle finger. We see this occsassonally with younger children, probably for special occassions.

A reader writes, "This collar and the cuffs appear to me to be attached which raises the question as to whether the collars were made so large when a child was this age because they were useable for several years. I don't know if that is at all even possible. The enormous collar here brought that to mind." I think the collar and sleeves were all part of the blouse. The sleeves would have extended well beyond the hand until folded up. However, I don't have a vintage example to confirm this so am not absolutely sure. Note the dressing up page.
