Eaton's Younger Boys' Suits (Winter 1927)

Figure 1.--Eatons offered a range of younger boys' suits in 1927. Here we see a a Oliver Twist suit. We are not entirely sure what an Oliver Twist suit is, but large collars and button-on pants seem to be the major feature. They certainly were not similar to 19th century skeleton suits.

Two-style Brown English Tweed

Here the "two-style" means that the shirt waist was included and the suit could be worn both with and without the suit jacket. Note the tassels at the neck. The ad copy read, "Smartly-Designed Lovat Shade Tweed Suit $4.65. Sizes 22 to 27-inch chest, for ages 4 to 9 years. 94-569 Neat English Tweed in Lovat shade that will give long wear and not show soil easily was the material selected for this dressy suit in yoke and two knife-pleat model. All-round buttoned belt and buttoned flap pockets. Good fitting knee pants. Material is of Wool and Cotton mixture." Note the reference to color and material rather than the suit style. We are not entirely sure what an Oliver Twist suit is, but large collars and button-on pants seem to be the major feature. They certainly were not similar to 19th century skeleton suits.
