Eaton's Younger Boys' Suits (Winter 1927)

Figure 1.--Eatons offered a range of younger boys' suits in 1927. Here we see a sailor suit and a suit which did not have lapels and buttoned at the collar. Curiously Eatons did not indicated what the style was called. This was a popular boys' style in the erarly 20th century, but as far as we can tell, dif not have a proper name.

Blue Serge Suit

Both illustrations show the boys wearing long stockings. The ad copy read, "All-Wool Blue English Serge $4.45. Sizes 21 to 28 chest for ages 3 to 8 years. 94-572 There is probably no material so much in demand for boys' wear as Blue Cheviot Serge. Mothers realize that, in addition to dressy appearance, this material provides long, satisfactory service. Suit, as illustrated, is made from a good weight all-wool cheviot-finish Blue English Serge, and is carefully tailored and strongly lined throughout. Splendid value in this neat yoke and knife-pleat suit. Price $4.45."

Rugby Suit

The illustration model was done with the popular flat cap. The ad copy read, "Rugby Model. Sizes 24 to 28-inch chest for ages 6 to 10 years. 94-574 Lovat English tweed; 94-575 Blue Cheviot Serge. $6.50. Mannish style suits cut on the popular English Rugby model. Single-breasted, three-button coat with rounded front and plain knee pants. Serviceably lined. Neat pattern Diamond weave. Dark Lovat shade Wool and Cotton English Tweed or All-Wool blue Cheviot English Serge." Note the use of the term kneepants. The pants look to us more like knee-length short pants. We do not see the three leg hem buttons usually associayed wityh kneepants.
