Eaton's Younger Boys' Suits (Winter 1927)


Figure 1.--Eatons offered a range of younger boys' suits in 1927. Here we see a sailor suit and a suit which did not have lapels and buttoned at the collar. Curiously Eatons did not indicated what the style was called. This was a popular boys' style in the erarly 20th century, but as far as we can tell, dif not have a proper name.

English Serge Junior Suits

Right Side of Page: Column 1: The ad copy read, "All-Wool English Serge Junior Suits. Sizes 24 to 28-inch chest, for ages 6 to 10 years. 94-567 Blue Serge; 94-584 Black Serge. $6.25 Junior Suits with bloomer pants in All-Wool Fine Twill Blue or Black English Serge. Styled in a model that is popular for bigger boys' wear--single-breasted, three-button coat with straight yoke and two knife pleats and roomy bloomer pants with expandable fasteners at knees. These are new lines added to our Boys' Junior Suits." The jacket was done with Norfolk styling. Note the reference to knickers as "bloomer pants".

Lovat Tweed Suit

The ad copy read, "Smartly-Designed Lovat Shade Tweed Suit $4.65. Sizes 22 to 27-inch chest, for ages 4 to 9 years. 94-569 Neat English Tweed in Lovat shade that will give long wear and not show soil easily was the material selected for this dressy suit in yoke and two knife-pleat model. All-round buttoned belt and buttoned flap pockets. Good fitting knee pants. Material is of Wool and Cotton mixture." Note the continued use of the term knee pants. Note also that the suit is identified by the material use rather any specific name.
