I am not sure just when mail order catalogs appeared. Advertisments and fashion magazines in 1949 show boys Dutch boys wearing a wide variety of casual and dress outfits. Boys wore short pants, knickers, and long pants. The woman's magazine Libelle offered
many different patterns for a large number of outfits.
We note tidlers wearing rompers and other sunsuits. There are also cold weather toddler outfits with pants legds that look rather like leggings.
Libelle in 1949 provided a pattern for a child's first toddler suit. Infants often were dressed in knitted outfits. This was a boy's firrt toddler outfit made out of material rather than knitted. The suit has a kind double breasted jacket anf leggings-like pants.

Libelle in 1949 provided a pattern for an Eton suit for younger boys. I am not sure how common this style was in the Netherlands. It was a very popular style in American for boys from affluent families. I'm not sure if it had the same social connotations in the Netherlands.
Libelle in 1949 provided a pattern for another juvenile suit. I do not know precisely how to describe this suit nor am I sure how common this style was in the Netherlands. I have not noted a similar suit worn in America.
Libelle in 1949 provided a number of casual and dress outfits for boys aged 2-12 including both short pants and knickers. Most of the oufits were short pants outfits. Clearly knickers had not yet gone out of fashion in the Netherlands, but were worn as a dress outfit with a suit.
Sweaters are a perenial popular boys garments in the Netherlands and are available in a wide varirty of styles.
Libelle offered a sweater pattern for older boys. It is a pullover for boys 11, 13, and 15 years.
