French Schools Events: Types

Figure 1.-- Here We note a school party complete with Sana Claus and of course presents in 1952. The children seem very pleased wityh their presents. The boys are all dressed up in white romper suits and the girls wear little dresses. Baloon sleves were a popular style. Weare not sure if the child at the right with long hair is a boy or girl. Girls at the time did not wear rompers. A reader writes, "I think thechild with the long hair is defintely a boy. he is wearing a button on romper suit and unusually a very large floppy bow tie. I thing the hair is a bit shorter than is apparent on the photo because there is a shadow behind the child making his hair look longer than it actually is. The bow and the romper shorts look to be the same colour." nother readr writes, "I also think the child with long hair is a boy. The romper suit and bow, the cardigan and his footwear all add up to the child being male." The school may have been Ferdinand Buisson.

We notice various types of French school events. We have noted award ceremonies, pagents, parties, and sports days. Wehave found images of Christmas parties at maternelles. We note one complete with Sana Claus and of course presents. The children seem very pleased wityh their presents. The boys are all dressed up in white romper suits and the girls wear little dresses. Baloon sleves were a popular style. We suspect that there were also parties in the younger primary years. We are unsure as to what extent their were Christms or other parties a the oher different school levels. We think this may have been most common for the younger children. We also notice First Communion ceremonies, but only at Catholic schools. France has a highly secular public school system. We do not yet have a lot of informations on these varius kinds of celebrations, but we are constantly expanding our archive. Hopefully our FRech reades will provide us some details on their school experinces.
