We know this is a German boy, but we do not know where the poetait was taken. Notice the backdrop. It suggests a very basic studio. This German portrait is undated, but we believe was taken in the early 1920s. I would guess the boy to be about 8 or 9 years old. This photo is good evidence for the chronology of color (beige) and length (thigh length) in long stockings during the 1920s in Germany. The suit is also interesting--especially the collar and cuffs and the general style with placement of buttons. Ruffled collars were more coimmon in the 19-s. but did continue to be seen in the 1920s, although to a lesser extent. Like the outfit the boy here wears, they were geerally smaller and less flanboyant than the ones worn in the 1910s. Note is neckwear. It looks like a floppy bow that has not been tied.
While not always the case, boys fpr dressy occassions commonly wore long stockings with flat-weave.
