American Vintage Fauntleroy Suit: Kneepants

Figure 1.--Here we see the leg closure on the kneepanrs. Notice the ornamental silk-covered buttons, buckle, and bow.

The suit has matching kneepants with the traditional three buttons. The buttons on many Fauntleroy suit pants were purely decorative. Although it is difficult to tell with the image here, it looks like the buttons here were actually functional. The leg clousure also had a buckle. There were also a very prominent decorative bows. The buttons are silk-covered, simple buckles. Notice that the silk covering on the buttos here has kargely worn off. The kneepants button to the shirt's waistline with bone buttons. Small pockets are located both on the kneepants and (one) on the jacket front. Fauntleroy suits were sometimes done with knickers, but kneepants like this pair were the common trousers associated with Fauntleroy suits.
