The shorts sets are shown being worn with ties. We are not sure how common neck ties were at school. Our general assessment is that they were beconing much less cimmon by the mid-1930s at most primary schools. These shorts sets became increasingly popular and shorts and long sets were widely worn in the 1940s, somerimes with suspenders rather than button-on styling. We note color options

C. Shorts Set

This was a standard shorts set with coordinated shirt and pants. The ad copy read, C Two Piece suit The pants buttons onto lighter Broadcloth Blouse and have two pockets. Blouse has a tie of Broadcloth. SIZES 3 to 9 years. 9 E 257: Has Cotton Serge Pants. Navy-and-Copen Blue as pictured. F. Tweed Shorts Set

This was a rather unusual shorts set. The top and bottom were done in the same material. The top seems more like a jacket than shirtt, but it was a button-on shirt. The ad copy read, "F 9 E 261: Suit of Cotton Tweed. Pants button to Blouse. Two-tone gray (shown) or two-tone brown. SIZES 3 to 8 years. For two piece suit, complete $1.39 Post 5 cents ex."

J. Short Sets

This was another standrd shorts set. The ad copy read, "J Two- piece suit: The Tweed pants buttons onto the Blouse of Printed Shirting. COLORS: Tan blouse and brown pants, as pictured at right; also blue blouse with gray pants. SIZES 3 to 9 years. 9 E 255: Wool-and-Cotton Tweed Pants with blouse. Price. $1.29 Post 5 cents ex. 9 E 256: All Wool Tweed Pants (two pockets) with blouse. Price. $1.98 Post 5 cents ex."
