In addition to the Eton-style sailor suit, there are two other sailor suits, both short and long pants. This seems a more prominent presentation than we have noted in the actual photographic record. We note younger primary (elementary) boys wearing sailor suits to school in the 1930s, but usually only one or two boys in any class. Sailor suits could also have been worn as a boy's best outfit. The styling on each suit is basically traditional, although the Eton suit is a little unusual. Also notice the embroidered design on the front of the short pants sailot suit. Both the short and long pants suit come with lanyard and tin whistle.
Eton suits were a popular style for younger boys. Here we have one done as a sailor suit. This was a style I have not noted before. Note the suit could be worn without the jacket as a kind of vest outfit. The image shows a blur suit, but it was also available in brown. The ad copy read, "A Four piece suit: 9 E-262 : Eton jacket and lined Pants made of all Wool-Flannel; matching suspender-back vest which buttons to pants: Cotton Broadcloth Blouse. Two pockets in pants; one in blouse. Navy with white blouse; brown with tan blouse. 3 to 7 years. 4 piece suit. $2.98 Post. 7 cents ex." Most of the outfits in the page were done to size 8-10 years. This one was only done up to size 7.
The shorts pants sailor suit had traditional styling. It was done in two types of serge. Also notice the embroidered design on the front of the short pants sailot suit. Both the short and long pants suit come with lanyard and tin whistle.
The ad copy read, "B Two-piece sailor suit: The pants buttons onto matching blouse. Removable dickie: whistle on cord. COLOR: Navy only. SIZES 3 to 8 years.
9 E 265: of wool-and-cotton serge suit complete. $1.98 Post 5 cents ex.
9 E 268: of All Wool French Serge suit complete. $2.98 Post 5 cents ex."
The long pants sailor suit also had traditional styling. It did not have the embroidered desifn of the short pants suit, but rather front buttons. They may have been decorative rather than functional. The ad copy read, "G 9 E 260: Cotton Serge Two piece Sailor Suit. Pants button to Blouse. A removable dickey. Whistle on cord. Navy (shown) SIZES 3 to 8 yrs. complete $1.59 Post 6 cents ex."
