Quizzes on Historical Boys Clothing

Figure 1.--Can you date this image based on the kilt suit worn by the boy. This style was generally worn during two decades. Also do you recognize the boy? A hint, he was to have a greater impact on our lives than perhaps any other American since Lincoln--and that includes our British friends.

The details on many drawings, paintings, and especially photographs have been lost. Often there is absolutely no information to go on. Thus one has to reconstruct the gender or the era and even the country from hints available in the image. There is no absolutely fool proof way of doing this. One does develop a senceafter handling hundreds of images, some identified, some unidentified. Assessing the images on an ad hoc basis can lead to errors. HBC has thus assembled some hints to aid you in assessing old images. Thesev hints are available in special HBC Photo Guideline Pages. I hope you find the guidelines useful. If you have any problems with the guidelines or additional suggestions, please let HBC know.

I thought it might be instructive to provide some images for you to evaluate as to a variety of factors. Tell me how you did. Also if you spot some useful clues, please let me know so I can add them to my guidelines.
