The Seminary was the work of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society which evolved into the Graduate (Theological) School of Tokyo Baptist Academy. The Baptists began founding schools as part of their missionary work. This would eventually laed to a major inobersity as well as secondar, primary, and kindergarten/murseru=y schools. You will acquire the ability to properly express your thoughts while developing your thinking, imagination and language sense. While listening to the remarks and works of friends, listening to each other and reading from each other, we place importance on acknowledging each other's strengths and improving their communication. University Role

Kanto Gaukin Eementary School is one of several private schools associated with a university. There is a comprehensive system from kindergarten to university. Universities began to be founded as Japan after the Meji Restoration began to build a modern education system. We are npot entirely sure why quite a number of Japanese private schools have unibersity connections, many not only with complete k-12 programs, but nersery schools as well. There is nothing lioke that in America and Britain abd we think the rest of Europe. We thought it might be for the staff. AScademics have a built in deiore for an acamically oriented school for their children. Or perhaps the schools provide a resource for university studies. In the the case of Kanto University, the Christian associatiom is a strong factor. Christian missionaried palayed an important role with ediucation throughout Asian and Sfricva.

Baptist Connection

Many schools including universities in Asian were founded by Chruitian groups. Kanto University was based on the Yokohama Baptist Theological Seminary founded near Yamate near Yokohama (1884). The Seminary was the work of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society which evolved into the Graduate (Theological) School of Tokyo Baptist Academy. School Philopsophy

The School describes its aims to 'Share joy" based on the Christian spirit. The School explains is approach. "Whether learning or living, you will grow and walk while sharing joy." You will acquire the ability to properly express your thoughts while developing your thinking, imagination and language sense. While listening to the remarks and works of friends, listening to each other and reading from each other, we place importance on acknowledging each other's strengths and improving their communication. In addition, we value basic learning of reading aloud, kanji, and diaries, and practice repetitive practice in home study to make it a habit.

Learning

The school stresses the joy of leaning. "You can develop what you feel into 'learning to share joy' by verbalizing it, writing it down, and sharing it. We will improve the writing skills and cultivate a diversified perspective for the school book Asagiri which is published every two years. The Kanji test was conducted at the school, and 97.4% of all the examinees passed and received the Excellent Group Award. (FY2017)." Math is seen as very imprtant. "We aim to nurture a rich sense of mathematics, and at the same time, teach students so that they can logically make sense and push forward their thoughts. While studying with colleagues, we will respect various ways of thinking, share values, cultivate an attitude of learning together, and make it a 'learning to share joy'." They employ a practical, 'hands-on approach. "We value 'Hands-on Math'", a math lesson that incorporates manual work. Not only on the desk but also by using the five senses abundantly to develop the sense of number and figure. In addition, in order to secure basic computing power and knowledge, we increase the payout time and hold study sessions centered on review for long vacations such as summer vacation and winter vacation. We carry out math and mathematical thinking ability tests at school. (92% of all examinees pass)

Uniform

The Kanto Elemenary school adopted a English style Uniform. They have a formal winter uniform and an informal, more casual summer uniform. Here is the winter uniform for Kanto Gaukin Elementary School (figure 1). It is worn October-May. The boys and girls wear the sme blue blazer and blue tie. The boy wears a white shirt, the vgirls looks like she is wearing a blouse with slightly rounded tips. The boys wea short oants and the girls skirts done in the same blue-green plaid. They also wear the same blue-green knee socks and black leather shoes. The headwear is not shown, but most private uniform schools had headwear. We suspect that there is a felt hat. Many Japanese schools had English style peaked caps in the post-War era. But even schools like Kanto with English style uniforms have moved away from the peaked caps. Many now have winter felt caps and summer favbric hats. We note minor differences. English school tended to have grey school shorts. We have never seen plaid school shorts in England, and thery are not common for regilat wear. Of course plaid school skirts are vrery common. We suspect that some schools have adopted plaid shorts for the boys becuause thaey wanted to corrordinate the outfits for the boys and girls. There is also tan =overrcoat, the same style for the boys and girls. The Kanto summer uniform is very simple and very standard. Boys and girls wear the same white fabric hatt with chin strap. The white shirt for the boys is worn with an open collar without a tie. The shirt is worr with blue short pants. They may have elasticised waitrs, we are not sure. The girls wear a light weight summer dress with a Peter Pan collar, another common English style. Bot the boys and girls wear white ankle socks.
