Petit College Chronology: The 1950s

Figure 1.--This is the 8 eme class at the Petit College. Unfortunately the portrait is undated. It was probably taken in the early 1960s, but it may show how the boys dressed in the 1950s.

We are not sure yet about the school dress code in the 1950s. We suspct that like the 1960s and 70s that a smock was required. This was probably the smock worn in the 1950s and early 60s, but we are not yet sure. We are not sure about the color, but was probably a light blue. The smocks have large pointed collars, done in the same materail as the smock iyself. The smocks button at the collar, completely covering the boys' shirts. The smocks are side buttoning smocks done with adouble-breasted look. They have self-belts with buckles. We also note that there seem to be school rules about what the children wear with the smock. All the children wear short pants and white socks. Given the conformity, there must hav been a school rule. We note a slightly different style smock by the late 1960s. We are not sure when the change was made.
