Boys Knitted Snow Suit Types: Two Piece Suits

Figure 1.--Patterns for this knit snow suit sweater and legging set were offered in size 6 to 8 years by Dominion Knitting, Ontario, Canada. WE believe the date was about 1930.

The snow suit was generally a two piece garment of matching long-sleeve tops and long pants bottom. The two piece suits generally had pullover tops. Many suits came with matching or coordinated mittems and caps. These two basic types, one and two piece snow suits, were made in a great variety of styles. The most common stylistic variations were with the treatment of the collar, but the wrist and waistband could also be designed and detailed in a number of ways. There were also different feartures of the leggings--most prominentlly how to handle the feet. Some ended at the ankle. They might have elastic bands to go under the shoe insole. Others might be knitted with feet and be worn inside the boot or shoe.
