"In Which We Serve" is an important British World War II movie made during the peak of the War. The film is the story of a ship, the British destroyer HMS Torrin which is sunk. Britain at the time was threatened by the U-boat campaign in the North Atlantic. Aftervthe ship is sunk, the plot unfolds as flash backs by survivors as they cling to a life raft. Noel Coward who plays the captain won an Academy Award Winner. A British reader tells us that, "The film is loosely based on the life of Lord Louie Mountbatten and his ship HMS Kelly, Noel Coward takes on his role for the film." Mounbatten lost his destroyer in the fighting in the Mediterranean. The film views the lives of various sailors and their service on a destroyer. One of the first scenes is in the Captain's home. He has a son, about 10 or so. The boy has only a few lines. He wears a suit, certainly with shorts, but as he is at the dinner table they are not shown. He appears later in a picnic scene in shorts and at home in shorts with knee socks. Quite a polite boy who still says "mummy" when talking to his mom. The cast includes John Mills and Richard Attenborough.
