*** Japanese familes -- young family 1910s

Young Japanese Family (1910s)

Japanese family
Figure 1.--

Here we have a cabinet card portrait mother and her three very young children, all pre-school age wearing kimonos . We have no idea how to date it, but the dealer suggests about 1910. Mother and children wear traditional clothes, exceopt the baby is wearing what looks like a sailor cap. Of course this does not mean that the family did not wear Western styles. Many modern Japanese dress up in traditional styles for portraits. Curiously, the fnmily seems to have chosen a Western oriented studio named 'Matter of Fact'. Many Japanese studios had cabinet cards with the writing all in Japanese. In this case the writing is all in English. The city is not identified.
