Ingvar and Ingrid Karlsson (Colombia/Sweden, 1955)

Figure 1.-- These two Colombian-Swedish children, Ingvar and Ingrid Karlsson, were 10 and 9 years old when they were flown from Colombia to Sweden. Here they are landing at Stockholm's Bromma Airport during June 1955. Their father was a foreman, Anton Karlsson, who had been working in Sweden since 1916. He married a Colombian woman. We are not sure what he was doing in Colombia. The description of foreman suggests posibly a mining engineer. The press caption mentions the Utlandssven-Skärnäs Association mediation, whatever that may be. The children are apparently headed to Falun. We are not sure why the children were sent back to Sweden. It might have to do with La Violencia, the beginning of the Colombian Civil War with left-wing guerrillas.

The father, foreman Anton Karlsson, has been working in Colombia since 1916 and is married to an Indian. It will be three years before the children will be united with their parents.
