This is a particularly helpful image. It is not just a studio portrait. It shows two siblings outside their cozy, little home in Brasov. When the home is added, it tells you a great deal about the family. They seem a family in comfortable circumstances, but certainly not wealthy. Brasov is a city in central Romania. It was part of Transylvania which had been part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until after World War I (1914-18). We see two children about 3-7 years old. The snapshot was taken August 21, 1934. The home and fact that the family had a camera to take family snaspshots suggests a middle-class family. The children are proudly displaying their favorite toys. The girl wears a plain white dress. Her big brother wears a long-sleeve shirt and short pants wih an unusual overall-looking pinafore. The girl ears low-cut shoes while the boy wears high-tops.
