The sizes of ruffeled blouses varied considerably over the 19th century. Some were modest sizes, others wrehufe asnd every size in betweem. We see some large ones in the early-19th century and some very small ones at mid-century. Acually we only see ruffs at mid-century. Weare not duref id they were ctually part of a blouse. And again very lasrge ones at the end of the century and very early-20th century. We begin to see them in the mid-1880s decde. Some ruffleled collar might cover the entire shoulders. This was of course part of the Fauntleroy craze that began with the publication of Mrs. Burnett's book (1885). The size varied. While some ruffled collars almost enveloped small boys, we also see more modest examples even during the peal of the Dauntleroy Craze. . One such example is New York boy Freddiec Deveraux in 1892. The lasrgesr collas seem to be with the classic Faunrleroy cut-away jackert, but we also see some large ones with collar-buttoning jackers worn by older boys. More commonmly they hd some wha smaller collars.
