Photography: Stereoviewers--Studio

stereoview studio
Figure 1.--This is a fascinating view of the interior of a French stereoview studio workshop. The French photo historian Denis Pellerin writing on the history of French stereography during the second empire about 1860. It may be the studio of Alexis Gaudin. Not only is it a view that provides us with a wealth on information on how these stereoviews were manufactured: it is a magnificently composed view. Besides the photographic interest, the photograph also gives an indication of the employees.

Besides the photographic interest, the photograph also gives an indication of the employees. Here we see boh boys and young women. Note all the boys wear lng trousers, one with a short smock. Also note the hair cuts and the caps the youths in the back are wearing. We also see a good view of t least one of tghe young women and her dress.
