Japanese School Sports Days: Promotions

Figure 1.--Here in March 2010 we see the early morning lighting of candles for a sports day promotion. It was for the event at a primary school in northern Japan, notice the school.

We note sports days at Japanese schools. As far as we know, all schools stage sports days. They are important school events and also important social events in the local community. Thus the schools want the comminity to know about them. Presumably the children tell their parents. But the school also want to get get out the word to the community at large. The schools have various ways of promoting the events. The kids are of course the center if attention, but it is actually more of a community event than school event because so many parents and even neighborhood residents witghout kids attend.
