Japanese Individual School Uniform: Jiyu gakuen junior high school

Figure 1.--The boys at Jiyu Gakuen Junior High School in the 1970s wear a uniform that looks rather like an English school uniform, with peaked caps and short pants suits. Most English boys, however would have worn ties and never would have worn white socks. This is the boys winter uniforms.

The Jiyu Gakuen Junior High School was not just a junior hogh school. The junior high school was a division part of a larger school. Available photographs from the 1970s show the boys at Jiyu Gakuen Junior High School in the 1970s wear a uniform that looks rather like an Enggish school uniform, with peaked caps and short pants suits. Most English boys, however would have worn ties. Some Scottish schools did not require ties, but only a few English schools. English boys, however, would have never worn white socks--except for games (sports). This is the boys winter uniforms

Foundation

The School

The Jiyu Gakuen Junior High School was not just a junior hogh school. The junior high school was a division part of a larger school.

Uniform

Most English boys, however would have worn ties. Some Scottish schools did not require ties, but only a few English schools. Regulations

The available photographs from Jiyu Gakuen Junior High School show that the uniform regulations were very strictly enforce. All of the boys wear precisely the same uniform with absolutely no eceptions. Available photographs from England, in contrast, usually show a few boys wearing slightly different items such as ankle socks instead of kneesocks or kneesocks without the proper colored school colors.

Seasonality

Garments

Some basic information is available on the school uniform garments worn by boys at Jiyu Gakuen Junior High School.

Caps

Some photographs of the boys show them wearing English-style dark blue school caps. In other photographs they are not wearing the caps. Presumably the boys had to wear the caps to school, but did not have to wear them while actually at school.

Blazers

The boys appear to wear dark blue suit jacckets. The do not appear to be blazers as I do not note the school badge on them an they are worn with matching short pants. Blazers normally have the school badge an they are normally worn with contarsting shorts or trousers.

Shirts

The boys wear white shirts. They are worn open collared without ties.

Pants

Available images from the 1970s show all of the boys wearing identical dar blue short pants matching their blazer or suit jackets. Not only are all of the shorts the same color, but they all seem to be cut to the same length, suggesting a very strict uniform code.

Socks

Available images show the boys wearing white ankle socks. Some continental European boys wore white socks, but not Europwan boys.

Shoes

The boys wear white sjoes with white socks. They appear to be smeakers, but it is har to tell from the images.
