New Zealand--Individual Schools: Ahipara Primary School


Figure 1.-- The picture here shows a class at Ahipara Primary School in 1972 (figure 1). School uniforms were not required at primary schools. Two children wear traditional Maori costume.

Ahipara Primary School is a rural school in Northland, situated within the Ahipara township. Ahipara is a small coastal settlement of approximately 2000 people. It was founded in 1872 as a Mission school with 47 pupils. The school roll has a predominate Maori base. The picture here shows a class in 1972 (figure 1). School uniforms were not required at primary schools. Two children wear traditional Maori costume.
