Figure 1.--This is a class photo taken in 1964 at Laerskool Piet Retief. It is a private primary school in Piet Retief, a town in Mpumalanga province, South Africa, not far from the Swaziland border. This is an Afrikaans primary school, but the children wear very English-looking blazers as part of their uniform. Mosdt of the children wore ties, but footwear was optional.
