German Boys Lederhosen Conventions: Dressing Up--Suit Jackets

Figure 1.--W

We are not sure about the chronological trends of wearing suit or sports jackets wuth Lederhosen. Of course, formality in dress has declined throughout the 20th century and since the end of World War II. We notice quite a few snapshots from the 1930s-60s. This seems to be the time in whicvh wearingsuit or sports jackets with Lederhosen were most common. Of course the chronological range fir Lederhiosen worn wuth Bavarian ot Tracht jackets id much wider, extending into the 19th century. We suspect that the boys wearing Lederhosen with reguklar jackets were wearing them as Lederhosen became more popular after World War I, but not just as folk costumes which seems to have been the more standard convention before World War I. After the 1960s we see fewer boys wearing jackets with Lederhisen. This is because both suits and Lederhosen became less common. We do continue to see boys wearing Lederhosen with Tracht jsckets.
