Boys Knitted Snow Suits: Country Patterns


Figure 1.--This image shows a snowsuit made from a pattern offered by Newlands Wool, Canada in sizes 4-6, probably in the early 1950's.

We are not precisely sure why that was. The popularity of these knitted snow suits varied from country to country. We have noted these outfits from Canada, England, Germany, the Netherlands, and the Scandinavian countries. We do not yet have sufficent country information to adequately assess invidual country trends. The snow suit shown here is from a Canadian knitting magazine. We do note that snow suits seem to have been especilly popular in Canada. We have noted fewer snow suits in France, even though knitwear was pipular there. An important factor appears to be climatic. This image shows a snowsuit made from a pattern offered in sizes 4-6, by Newlands Wool Canada, probably in the early 1950's. We noticed another snow suit offered in size 6. I'm not sure to what extent older Canaian boys wore them.

We do note that snow suits seem to have been especilly popular in Canada. The Canadian winters and often heavy snowfall is of course an important factor. An important factor appears to be climatic. We have noted numeroys fashionable snowsuits in English knitting mafgazines.

France

We have noted fewer snow suits in France, even though knitwear was popular there. The milder French climate is presumably a factor here.
