Boys' Unknown Cap Style: Detailing

Figure 1.-- Te boy here wears a cap style we have not yet identified. Note the decorations at the base. We are not positive it is the same cap style as the undecorated ones we have noted, but it certainly looks similar to us. We at first thought it was a Glengary, but afer studying it, the caps looks more rounded and not elongated like a Glengary. We have noted few of these caps decorated like this. We do not know where this pgotograph was taken.

The cap is a style foe which we do not yet know the name. It is rather like that men wore with a smoking jacket, but was commonly worn by boys. we do not yet know the proper term for it. Most of the ones we have seen are undecorated. We have noted a few other examples in which the cap is more decorative. One portrait shows a boy whose cap is decorated at the base (figure 1).. We are not positive it is the same cap style, but it certainly looks similar to us. We at first thought it was a Glengary, but afer studying it, the caps looks more rounded and not elongated like a Glengary. We have noted few of these caps decorated like this. We do not know where this pgotograph was taken. The studio was Nicerson and it was taken in Provinetown, which suggested to us that it was taken in America or Britican. The accent over the "c"'s, however, suggest it is European, but I am not sure what country. This is not a style we normally associate with sailor suits, but we note them being worn with sailor suits as well as other styles. We do not note, however, any with sailor detailing. They may have been made to match the color and material of sailor suits
