Argentine First Communion Suit Chronology: The 1930s--The Pants

Figure 1.--This Argentine boy had a portrait taken in his double-breasted short pants sailor suit. He is wearing a double-breasted suit worn with knee socks. Note the wing collar and mdalion on his lapel. He akso had the fancy sleeve bow. It is a silver nitrate print inserted in a paper frame. The studio was Blanco y Negro in Buenos Aires.

There was some variation of First Communion suits as to the pants in the 1930s. We note both short and long pants as well as knee pants First Communion suits in the 1930s. We do not see knickers which were very common in Amweic at the time. This ws up to the parents or in the case of schools, the school authorities. Short pants suits were very common for First Communion suits in the 1930s. Short pants seem to have become standard in the 1930s. The shorts continued to be rather long, often looking rather like knee pants. The short pants the boys on the previous page are wearing are a good example. The Buenos Aires boy here is another example (figure 1). The difference was often just the buttons at the knee hem. By the end of the decade we no longer see knee pants suits.
