Boisseau Portrait: Unidentified American Boy (1895)



Figure 1.-- Here is a portrait of an unidentified boy. All we know for sure is that the portrait was done in 1895. This means that the boy was more and likely an American because Boisseau was living in America at the time. The boy looks to be about 4-years old. He wears a sailor cap, note the streamers at the side of the cap. The traditional sailor suit is navy blue with white detailing. There are, however, only two rather than the traditional three stripes. Notice the lanyard. There is presumably a tin whistle on the end. The sailor suit was one of the most popular outfits for boys at the time.

Alfred Boisseau was a French-born artist and photographer. His art work included both genre works and portraits. Here is a portrait of an unidentified boy.
