We also notice Dennings portrait of the Bicknell children (1841-42). His watercolor portrait depicts the six children of Elhanan Bicknell Esq, a successful businessman and noted art patron. Itb is a very active scene. The children are shown seated and standing in a group, some playing with flowers. It isa helpful image showng how childen of different ages were dressed. There are six children, three boys and two girls. We are not sure about the baby. The look to be about 2-15 yerars old. The two younger boys wear tunic suits with large open collars and white pants. Notice the muted colors. The older boy wears a short jacket and white pants like the yonger boys. Notice the similar color of the jackets. Also notice the low cut shoes. High-top shoes do not become important until the secomd half of the 19th century. The two girls wear full length dreesses. The younger girl's dress is a drab color similat bto the boys. Actually we are not surev about the gender, but seem to detect a center hair part. At that age, however, gendr would probably not changd the outfit. The entire image is sret around the oldest child--a girl. It is a white, full length dress with a medium neckline.
