Just Jean Christian Holm was a 19th century portraitist. Just was born in Randers, Randers Kommune, Midtjylland, Denmark (1815). His father was the son of an army surgeon Just Christian Holm. His mother was Jeannette Margrethe (Suenson). He studied at the Randers Realskole, but decided not to pursue an academic education, but to become an artist. He exhibited notavle skills.
He entered Kunstakademietthe Academy of Fine Arts bin Copenhagen. He advanced to the model school (1835) and won the silver medal (1838). He then traveled aboroad tostudy greatart work (1840-43). He spent much of he time in Munich and Paris. He began exhibiting his work (1837). He quickly establihed a reputation as a talentd portraitist. He did many portaits at half natural size. Among his many portrait of aduls are a number of children. Here is one of the child portraits, two unidentified brthers. We have seen a date of 1884, but we can't confirm that. If so it ws the last portrait he psinted. The younger brother wears a white jacketed dress. The older broher wears a vekvet burgandy knee pants suit. Holm also painted a few gemre works. Hs works date from 1837-1884, leaving a visual record of nearly 5 decades. He was a lecturer at the United Church Schools (1864-82. Holm nerver married. He was a mason and painted many other masonns.
