Figure 1.--This is a potrait painted by Danish artist Just Jean Christian Holm,. We note a date of 1884 which we are unsure about. We see two boys, one seated and one standing, with a large, beautifully painted dog next to them. The children are formally dressed. The oldr boy wears a velvet burgandy knee pnts suit. The younger boy wears what looks like a white jacketed dress. Both boys have bows and wear long stockings. The younger boy white stockings and the older boy white stockings. They look to be in the range of 5-10 years old. The younger boy looks bit oldr, bu wold not have worn a dress much older thn 5-6 years. We have also seen the boys identifed as Maria Róża Kronenberg and Róża Maria Karolina Kronenberg ainted by Polish artist Józef Simmler created in 1860, but this is a computer error. This painting is one of two girls. .

Just Jean Christian Holm was a 19th century portraitist. Just was born in Randers, Randers Kommune, Midtjylland, Denmark (1815). His father was the son of an army surgeon Just Christian Holm. His mother was Jeannette Margrethe (Suenson). He studied at the Randers Realskole, but decided not to pursue an academic education, but to become an artist. He exhibited notavle skills. He entered Kunstakademietthe Academy of Fine Arts bin Copenhagen. He advanced to the model school (1835) and won the silver medal (1838). He then traveled aboroad tostudy greatart work (1840-43). He spent much of he time in Munich and Paris. He began exhibiting his work (1837). He quickly establihed a reputation as a talentd portraitist. He did many portaits at half natural size. Among his many portrait of aduls are a number of children. Here is one of the child portraits, two unidentified brthers. We have seen a date of 1884, but we can't confirm that. If so it ws the last portrait he psinted. The younger brother wears a white jacketed dress. The older broher wears a vekvet burgandy knee pants suit. Holm also painted a few gemre works. Hs works date from 1837-1884, leaving a visual record of nearly 5 decades. He was a lecturer at the United Church Schools (1864-82. Holm nerver married. He was a mason and painted many other masonns.
