Ivan Fomich Khrutsky is what we would now call a Belarusian artist. At the time he would be might be called a Polish-Russian artist. iWe notice range of works, including an eclectic mix of still lives, landscapes, genre scenes, religious works, and portraits. His paintings provide a wonderful record of during the mid-19 century. His long career give us a very important body of work. A good example is an unidentified girl in a bright blue dress and frilly pantralettes. This was clearly a girl from the upper classes which wore fashions largely influenced by French styles. The image is undated. We might guess that it was painted about 1840. The girl has short hairand earings. The dress has a small collarless bodice with puff sleeve, wjite edging and an exagerated waist-line. The skirt explodes out from the waistline and iscut at knee lebel. Se wears itwith a lacy petticoats. She also wears lacy panelettes which do notcompletelycover her legs. On the floor is a very large-brimmed straw hat with doube bows and streeamers matching her dress.
