Sébastien Norblin was born in Warsaw, atthe time pat of the Russian Empire after the Polish partityions (1796). His father was Jean-Pierre Norblin. His two half-brothers were alo artistic. Louis Norblin was a musician and Alexandre-Jean-Constantin nrcame a sculptor. The family moved to France when Sébastien was still quite young to be part of the expanding Napolelonic Empire (1804). Sébastien studied under his father before entering the École des Beaux-Arts ad traiing under under François-André Vincent. He was also a pupil of Régnault and Blondel. He proved an able student and won third prize in a competition in Rome (1822) and won first prize with 'Antigone giving burial to Polynices' (1825). This led to a posution in the the Villa Medici in Rome (1926). He pent 7 years drawing landscapes that he would later use in his historical paintings. Return to Paris he began secuing public commissions. He became a teacher at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he had studues as a boy. He won a second-class medal (1833), first-class medal (1844), chevalier of the Légion d'honneur (1859). He exhibite at the Salon with various submissions. He did historical paintings under the July Monarchy and the Second Empire (1830s-60s). His work were often classical scenes. One such work was a neo-Greek scenes exhibited at the Salon -- 'Greek Women at a Fountain' (1842). He joined the Polish diapora in Poland which directed some of his work. He was involved in a range of public works. With Eugène Viollet-le-Duc and Eugène Delacroix, he helped resore the Prince Adam Jerzy Czartoryski's Hôtel Lambert. Niorblin did many landscapes, including fantastic and mystical scenes. He also did mythological historical and religious works. He sever church decortion projects.
