tunic suits
Figure 1.-- Here we see a portrait of siblings Don and Dorothy Garth. They look to be about 6-10 years old. All we know for sure is that is their names. The boy wears a tunic suit with knee pants. There is a very wide belt/waistband. The striped stockings and what look like sandals are unusual. His sister wears a white dress with a huge hair bow along with white knee socks. The portrait is undated, but looks like the 1910s to us. These shorter cut tunics are mostly associated with the 1910s. The same is true of these really large hair bows and knee socks. The early-20s is possible, but 1910s seems more likely. Unfortunately it is a poor quality print, even thoughh it looks to be a studio portrait.

Here we see a portrait of siblings Don and Dorothy Garth. They look to be about 6-10 years old. All we know for sure is that is their names. The boy wears a tunic suit with half sleeves and knee pants. Boys fashions changed significantly in the 1910s with boys wearing knickers rather than knee pants. We continue to see some younger boys mostly from affluent families continuing to wear knee pants. The boy here is a good example. After World War I in the 1920s both tunics and knee pants disappeard. Yonger boys began wearing short pants. The boy's tunic here has a very wide belt/waistband. This was very rare. The striped stockings and what look like sandals are unusual. His slightly older sister wears a white dress with a huge hair bow along with white knee socks. The portrait is undated, but looks like the 1910s to us.
