Bruno and Herbert Hepperle (United States, about 1895)

Figure 1.--This cabinet card portrait shows two brothers who look to be about 5-8 years old. Theya are the Hepperle boys, Bruno and Herbert. The boys are both wearing Little Lord Fauntleroy suits with large ruffled collars. The portrait is undated, but because North Dakota became a state in November 1889 it would have probably been some time in the 1890s. The very early 1900s decade is possible. The older boy';s small flopy bow suggesrts thevlate-1890s or early-1900s decade. The location is interesting. Boys wearing fashionable outfits like this in the Dakota means that the Fauntleroy Craze did not just affect the fashionable northeastern cities.

The younger brother (perhaos Herberrt wears the classic velvet Fauntleroy cut-away jacket, but without a floppy bow. His older brother wears a double-breasted jacket. It looks like his brother's cut-waay jacket only because it was left unbuttoned. The portrait was taken at the Fallman Studio in Eureka, South Dakota.
