Figure 1.-- This cabinet card portrait shows brothers Paul and Earl Hewett, but no additional information. The bous look to be abou 8-11 years old. They wear identifical double-breasted suit jackets with knee pants and long stockings. We can't tell much about the collars. The neckwear looks to be bow ties. We are not sure about the date, but looks like the 1890s to us, probably the late-1890s. This was during the Fauntleroy Craze, but there is not a touch of Fauntleroy styling involved here..

Boys this age commonly had large collars or floppy bows even in the late-19th century. The studio was Wineland in Centerburg, Ohio. Centerburg was a very small town in a rural areas. A studio in sych a small town shows how wide spread photographic studios were. The name comes from the location in the center of the state.
