This photograph was taken in the early-20th. It is not dated, but we might guess it was taken about 1920. It comes from Sarule, a small town in central Sardinia up in the mountains--some 2,300 ft above sea level. At the time, people were still commonly wearing traditional costumes as everyday clothing. The destinctive male style appears to be a kind of short dark skirted garment worn with white pants of varying length. We see the smae style in the Cabras group image on the previous page.
