Dutch Boys' Clothes: Shirts and Blouses


Figure 1.--This boy wears a checkered shirt about 1943. Most of the other boys with him wore solid colored shirts. The boys also seem to be wearing mostly long sleeves.

Younger boys wore a variety of blouses often with large collars. Eton and Peter Pan collars were two favorites. Often they were made with button on styling. Boys generally wore solid colored long sleeve white shirts through the 1910s. Often a dtachable Eton collar was used for formal occasions. After World War I (1914-18) many other styles of shirts became more common, especially shirts with attached soft collars. Short sleeved shirts also appeared as well as casual styles. Some shirts were also worn with Rugby styling. Colored and paterned shirts also became more prevalent.

Blouses

Younger boys wore a variety of blouses. A blouse is essential a shirt without tails to tuck in. As they were worn by younger boys they often hadstilized large collars. Eton and Peter Pan collars were two favorites. Often they were made with button on styling. Sometimes larger buttons were worn. Some blouses buttoned in the back.
