Unidentified Large Family (United States, 1910s)

1910s family
Figure 1.-- Here we have an unidentified family cabint card portrait with six children, four girls, a boy and a baby who may be a girl or boy. More children may be coming. There is no information associated with the family. All the have is the image to go on. It is one of the new style cards tht ppeared ar the turn if the 20th century. In this case almost all of the front was taken up by the image with very small margins. The style of the cabinet card, the tan colored mount, all the hair bows, the size of the bows, and the boy's Norfolk knickers suit, all point to the 1910s.

The children look to be about 1-14 years old. The girls all wear similar white dresses with thrir matching haor bows. The girls also all wear white long stockings. It is difficult to ake out, but the boy looks to have dark long stockings. Large families were common in the 19th century when families lived on the farm and provided needed labor, but America by the 1910s was very close to the 1920s when the majority of the population for the first time was urban, And this mean that the size of families were falling. This family would not have been seen as particularly lasrge in the 19th century, bu it wold hve been seen a good sized famy by the 1900s.
