The girls' dresses look like that period. The boy's V-neck sweater and short pants are a liitle harder to pinn down. The dealer suggested the 1930s, but ght did not seem right to us. Dad's wide lapels seem to rule out the 1960s.

Many of our family images are not dated. As a result we can not always include images we have found in our chronology. Most photographs contain a variety of clues that can be useful in dating it. We know many of the clues, but often readers know more than we do and can pick up on one detail or another. We can usually, but not always identify the decade. We thought it might be useful to load some of the images which have caused us some trouble. Hopefully HBC readers can help us date, at least identify the decade so we can place it in our chronology.

Figure 1: Suburban Family (perhaps about 1950)

This looks like a suburban house to us and one the family has just moved into. (The plants seem recently planted.) The children look about 6-13 years old. We would guess the snapshot was taken in the late-1940s or early-50s. The girls' dresses look like that period. I was in grade school at that time and they are the kind of dresses I remember. All the girls wore dresses to school at the time. No long pants or shorts. The boy's V-neck sweater and short pants are a liitle harder to pin down. The dealer suggested the 1930s, but thht did not seem right to us. Dad's wide lapels seem to rule out the 1960s.
